As this was my first feature film I gained a lot of valuable experience at every step of the project. Securing this post so early in my career allowed me to learn fast and gain immediate insight into the process, while writing the source music and themes gave me a lot of inspiration and helped quickly build up a sophisticated portfolio. Strong communication with the director over a long period of time helped shape the score into a successful concept which we could both be happy with.
There is plenty of scope for variety within the project, as the setting is fairly open to a traditional cinematic approach but contains diverse influences. An Eastern European influence runs through the first Act (the film is currently split into three), which gave rise to some of the themes and the instrument choices. The Viola, which is widely used, gives it an earthy and melancholic atmosphere, and the Clarinet really accentuates the Eastern European element. I am looking forward to the film’s release in early 2015.
